The Importance of Street Sweeping

Street sweeping helps remove debris from the gutter and roadsides that would otherwise go into storm drains, causing water pollution. This is just one of the many preventative measures that can help reduce water pollution. Residents can also help by not over-watering their yards. Over-watering washes pollutants such as yard waste, pesticides, fertilizers, and motor oil into the street and into storm drains. Please note that purposely washing any type of debris into the street is not only bad for the environment but against the law. Residents are encouraged to dispose of all yard waste in Waste Management-provided green waste containers.

We Need Your Help

We want to make sure your street is thoroughly swept, which means we need your help. On your street sweeping days, please be sure the street in front of your home is free of any parked vehicles or other obstacles that would prevent the sweeper from cleaning the curbs.  Please note that the City does not sweep residential streets on Tuesdays so as to avoid conflicts with the Waste Management trash pickup schedule.

Trees that are too low or vegetation that is overgrown may also prevent a street sweeper from properly cleaning your street and should be trimmed if privately owned. To report City-owned trees that are too low please contact the Landscape Maintenance Division at 909.394.6272.  For more information about the Street Sweeping Program please the Public Work Department at  909. 394.6240.

Thank you for being our eyes and ears in the City and for helping us keep our streets safe and clean!
