There will be bones rattling and ghouls gasping as young and old take to the streets of San Dimas for the First Annual “Running Scared”- Halloween themed 5k, 1 Mile Fun Run and Toddler Trot.  The event makes its debut Saturday, October 26 and kicks of the Fun Family Weekend.

The weekend begins with the Family Fright Night on Friday, October 25 at 5 pm.   There will be a pumpkin carving contest at 5 pm followed by Movies in the Park which will feature a spooky movie selected by residents who vote on Twitter.  Don’t forget to bring a chair and blanket for the movie.  It will also be the first night of the ever-popular Haunted Hall at the San Dimas Community Building brought to you by the Teen Action Committee.

Saturday morning you can start your day off with the Running Scared event.  Previously known as the San Dimas Fitness Festival, this year’s event promises to bring more fun and excitement to everyone as the Parks and Recreation Department is always striving to “Up Our Game”.  During last year’s Fitness Run Event, participants were surveyed and asked about changing up the event. There was positive feedback on having a change, and thus the Parks and Recreation Department present you the first annual “Running Scared Event”. All finishers will receive a medal and there will be special awards for the winners in each age group as well as best costumed runner and best costumes by a group.

Top off your evening at the Annual Halloween Specktackular that features “ghostly” game booths, costume contests, bouncers and food trucks with plenty of food to “goblin” down!  Local community groups are encouraged to join our new Trunk or Treat event, and there will be another night of the Haunted Hall.  For more information about the Family Weekend call the Parks and Recreation Department at (909) 394-6230.
