Regional Planning

The Community Development Department is responsible for evaluating and making recommendations on regional issues such as traffic, housing, air quality, open space preservation and land use planning which require local solutions to protect and promote the quality of life in the region.

The department coordinates with regional planning agencies and surrounding jurisdictions on regional planning issues. Regional issues include, but are not limited to: traffic and circulation, air pollution, water, open space, wildlife habitat, housing, and flood control. Other responsibilities of this division are to provide environmental reviews of projects to ensure they are evaluated to be in conformance with the California Environmental Quality Act and review and analyze regional development projects to ensure compliance with the City’s General Plan, Municipal Code and other development standards and criteria.
